Palmate leaves (5-7 lobes) are 2-5" long. These unique one-of-a-kind trees are stunning. Our specimen trees are hardy and have been exceptionally well cared for, and will still thrive for many years to come. The color is such a pale pink, that the flowers nearly appear to be white. A single-flowering variety, each blossom consists of just five petals. As with many maples, the flowers are rather attractive close up, but are not particularly showy from a distance. The Laceleaf Japanese maple ‘Atropurpureum’ is a large shrubby, rounded maple tree with thin fern-like leaves dissected into small lobes. Cultivars (often grafted) are quite variable. Visitors without advance reservations will not be allowed into the garden! Important: Advance reservations are required during the peak season in spring!ĭuring the peak of the season (April 23 to May 5, 2022), tickets for a specific date and time slot have to be purchased in advance in order to enter Kawachi Wisteria Garden. Wisteria have been growing at the shrine ever. Tickets purchased in advance always cost 500 yen, and the possible difference to the actual admission fee has to be paid at the garden. Located near Tokyo Sky Tree, Kameido Tenjin is a historic shrine where visitors can enjoy this purple flower. You’ll want to keep your propagated Japanese maple in a pot for about a year. The branch should start to sprout roots in about 3-4 weeks. Insert the cutting into the soil you prepared, and set it in a sunny location. The admission during the wisteria season is 500 yen, 1000 yen or 1500 yen depending on the state of the season. Soak the cutting in liquid rooting hormone for about 1 minute. The garden is open from 8:00 to 18:00 during the wisteria season (late April to early May) and from 9:00 to 17:00 during the autumn color season (mid November to early December). To reduce congestion, advance reservations are required to enter the garden during the peak season in spring. Kawachi Wisteria Garden has grown very popular in recent years and now attracts large numbers of domestic and international visitors during the wisteria season, which often falls into the busy Golden Week. A viewpoint at the top of the hillside garden allows for nice views over the sea of wisteria flowers and the surrounding valley which is also know for its bamboo groves. Furthermore, there is a collection of large wisteria trees that together form an enormous roof of drooping flowers. The garden's most prominent features are two, roughly 100 meter long tunnels made of wisteria trees of differing varieties and colors, ranging from white to dark purple. The garden is opened to the public seasonally during the wisteria season which usually peaks around late April to early May and during the maple leaf season in autumn.
